Zengő Motorsport’s efforts in Dubai halted by rain

The Zengő Motorsport team didn’t enjoy the 24-hour race in Dubai as much as it hoped. This year’s edition of the event was stopped early due to the heavy rain.

On the 2nd weekend in January, most of the Motorsport fans come back alive as it is the usual time of the 24h Dubai race. In 2020, the circuit hosted its 15th edition of the event.

Zengő Motorsport was one of the teams on the grid, it is also a regular participant in the ESET V4 Cup series in the TC-3500 category. However, for its 7th appearance at the Persian Gulf, the Hungarian team opted for the TCR category.

And to make it even better, the Zengő Motorsport chose drivers also familiar to the fans of the ESET V4 Cup championship. Gábor Kismarty-Lechner, the TC-3500 Sprint 2019 champion and Endurance 2018 champion, Csaba Tóth, the TC-3500 Endurance 2018 champion, Tamás Horváth and the team owner Zoltán Zengő shared the duties behind the wheel of a Cupra. The last two drivers also raced in the ESET V4 Cup as entered the opening round of last season at Hungaroring.

However, this Dubai adventure ended for the Hungarian team a little prematurely. As it did for everyone. On Friday, heavy rain arrived and after seven hours, the race had to be red-flagged. As the conditions didn’t improve, the organisers had to cancel the rest of the opening round of the 24H Series for safety reasons.

Zengő Motorsport #133 car finished in the 51st place in the overall standings. In the TCR category, they were classified in the 11th position, just outside of the TOP 10.

Despite the racing plans did not go as expected for the Hungarian team, they definitely do not leave the United Arab of Emirates disappointed. Especially in the case of Gábor Kismarty-Lechner, who used this event as an opportunity to propose to his long-time girlfriend. And she said yes.
