Michal Makeš opens Red Bull Ring weekend with another victory

Michal Makeš of the Mičánek Motorsport team continued in his winning series and after two victories in the opening racing weekend accepted the cup for the winner in the first small sprint race of this racing weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

The extensive starting field of Renault Clio IV cars contributed to the dramatic, very tight time practice results. While the quickest lap in the time practice belonged to the Polish pilot Karol Urbaniak, the winner of the race Michal Makeš obtained the eleventh position in the starting grid based on the time practice results among the Renaults.

The start of the race slightly mixed the starting grid positions but Urbaniak controlled the lead and soon left his pursuers quite far behind. Jáchym Galáš of the gt2 motorsport team advanced to the second rank and seemed to be about to enjoy a peaceful race. But, Michal Makeš was already making his way forward from the rear of the starting field and when Urbaniak was penalised by a pit pass for repeated exceeding the circuit speed limits the Czech duo consisting of Galáš and Makeš found themselves in a duel for the race victory.

For this season both pilots moved from go carts to big cars and have performed excellently in their new roles. The greatest joy in the first race finally belonged to Michal Makeš, as Galáš ran out of petrol in the last lap and thus opened the way to the third victory out of the so far three starts for Makeš. Jáchym Galáš eventually kept the second rank before Pawel Wysmyk, how was however later disqualified, thus letting the third rank to Szymon Ladniak of the BM Racing team.

The victory in the Renault Clio III class was enjoyed after a sovereign ride by Denis Wolf (Racing Team Zäziwill) who won over Milan Haering (Carpek Service) and the domestic female pilot Johanna Amann.

David Wassermann did not give the slightest chance to his rivals in the Chevrolet Cruze Cup class. The pilot of the Pfister Racing team left his pursuers far behind right after start and thus the rest of the starting field were only left with the second and the third ranks to fight for. The remaining two medal ranks were finally shared by the newcomer Fabian Piwetz and Christoph Pflügler.
