The inaugural event of the ESET Cup 2022 promises big starting field

The second weekend of April will start 2022 season of the ESET Cup, which includes the popular GT category. Spectators and competitors have something to look forward to, as the starting list includes more than two dozen cars.

The opening event of the season will take place at Hungaroring circuit, which is also a regular stop of the Formula 1 Championship. It has become a tradition that this is where the first battles for the points in the ESET Cup begin. And this time it will be a really exciting races, as the GT field will be enriched by several cars of the Austrian Touring Car Masters Championship.

In the GT Sprint we will see a number of well-known faces, including the defending champions Marcin Jedlinský, Matěj Pavlíček and Adam Rzepecký, who triumphed in the GT3, respectively GT4 and GTC. Last year’s champion in endurance Gregor Zsigo with the new BMW M4 GT3 will not be missing. The Polish Olimp Racing team will also bring new equipment. The team left the Mercedes brand and have two Ferrari 488 GT3s for Marcin Jedlinsky and his father Stanislaw. However Mercedes AMG GT3 car will be on the starting grid, for example thanks to the Libor Milota and team 4 race GT.

The GT4 category also promises interesting fights, where several KTM cars will compete against each other. KTM brand represents team RTR Projects (Tomáš Miniberger, Matěj Pavlíček), which will have competition in the form of Austrian drivers with KTM from the TCM championship. As for the GT4 category, at Hungaroring we will also see the Šenkýř Motorsport team with two BMW M4 GT4s for Samuel Vetrák and Petr Švantner.

The defending champion in GTC classification Adam Rzepecki with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is looking forward to the new season. He will oppose Lamborghini SuperTropheo cars, which will be brought to Hungary by Dennis Waszek and the Mičánek Motorsport team. Fans of prototypes will also have something to cheer for. The ARC Bratislava team, which regularly starts in the World Endurance Championships, is going to field Ligier LMP2 JSP2 with Mira Konopka behind the wheel.

The field will be similarly rich in Saturday’s endurance race. The starting list promises more than two dozen cars across the GT3, GT4 or GTC categories.
