Sprint GT3: Zsigo beats Skalický by one point

Gregor Zsigo clinched the GT3 Sprint 2020 championship title ahead of Daniel Skalický, who had to settle for 2nd place by just a single point. Petr Kačírek finished in 3rd position.

The 2020 season is over, and it provided some great entertainment for the fans. Very often they could witness close and exciting battles, including some amazing racing in the GT3 Sprint category. The season offered 5 different winners in 8 races and the championship battle took until the final round of the season.

In the end, Gregor Zsigo took the championship title, especially thanks to his great consistency. The Trevor Racing driver managed to take 6 podium finishes in 8 races. He won the opening race in Brno, then added two 2nd places in Sunday races at Slovakiaring and Brno and then three 3rd place finishes from both races in Croatia and the first race in Slovakia. He accumulated a total amount of 34 points.

But Zsigo won the championship by just a single point ahead of Daniel Skalický. The Duck Racing driver took 33 points in total, despite not winning a single race. However, just like Zsigo, he took several podiums during the season. While he finished 2nd in both races at Grobnik and in the first race in Brno, he also took two 3rd place finishes in the second race at Slovakiaring and in the first race at Hungaroring.

Daniel Skalický was very close to the title.

The Duck Racing team also took the 3rd place overall, thanks to Petr Kačírek and his 27.5 points, despite entering only 3 races this season. He won the second race in Brno and added a 2nd position in Saturday’s race at Slovakiaring and also a 4th place finish at Hungaroring.

Apart from Zsigo and Kačírek, the other races winners were Libor Milota (both races at Grobnik), Marcin Jedlinski (both races at Hungaroring) or the two-time European Truck Racing champion David Vršecký (both races at Slovakiaring). They all had 12.5 points each, but in the end, Milota took the 4th place in the standings ahead of Vršecký in 5th and Jedlinski in 6th position.

Vršecký raced for the Buggyra Zero Mileage Racing team, which also entered Adam Lacko, a 2017 European Truck Racing champion, and just a 16-year-old Aliyyah Koloc, who is also racing in the FIA ETRC series. Both raced in the final round of the season at Hungaroring, with Lacko finishing 2nd in Saturday’s race and Koloc crossing the line in the same position on Sunday. Both gained 9 points and while Lacko finished in 7th place overall, Koloc took the 8th position in the championship.
