Defending the title is the goal, but we will start with humility, says Libor Milota

Reigning GT3 Sprint Champion Libor Milota will be driving a rejuvenated Mercedes AMG GT3 this year. After last year’s success, the GT2 Motorsport team is keen to continue on the same wave, but everyone is aware that the competition has not slackened off over the winter.

Libor, are you planning to defence the title this year?
As we always do, we will start the season with humility and I believe that the results will come. After a successful season last year, we obviously have the desire and ambition, but I am aware that to repeat such a season, among many other things, a bit of luck is also needed. So yes, we have the desire, but we will see how we can do it.

And are you going to do it with your current Mercedes or a new car?
We’ll be running the current evo 2020 specification of Mercedes AMG GT3. That means our car will be rejuvenated with the latest aero features and everything that goes with it.

Are you planning an endurance races? You’ve been keeping the pace with the winning Racing Trevor team last year…
We’re going to try to compete in the endurance as well. The new specification of the car should help us manage the tyres better, so we are hoping for better results from the hour-long races. However, it’s early to make any kind of assessment, no race team has been idle. We’ll see after the first race at Oschersleben.

Are you familiar with Oschersleben, or will this be your first time?
I’ve never raced there and I don’t know the circuit, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m practicing on the simulator and I believe we won’t be bad on it. It’s a technical, not exactly easy track. I believe a circuit like this could suit me and the car. The race is just around the corner so we will soon find out how we managed to prepare for the whole season.

What do you think about this year’s ESET Cup calendar?
I like the calendar. I’m excited about Most, which I like and know especially from the days of motorcycle racing or the nice racing events organized by David Fritschek – Carbonia Cup. As I mentioned, I will be going to Oschersleben for the first time and I am really looking forward to it. Hopefully these two new circuits on the calendar will bring us luck.

Is there anything you would have done differently last year? Something you learned from?
Yes, there are a lot of things. I’ve been gaining experience all season and not just me, but the whole team. Going back now is pointless, we made many mistakes, the crucial one in the first race at Hungaroring. There we took away the chance to win the endurance race and it was very painful. It´s the past now and I believe we have learned our lesson.

Do you have plans to compete elsewhere in other championships?
We have the desire, but times are difficult and it would be premature to reveal anything now. We are negotiating support for our team and we will see if we can get something solid agreed.
