Makeš moves into TCR

Michal Makeš will be joining the TCR category in 2020 season with Mičánek Motorsport team, where he is set to drive a Cupra car.

The Czech driver won the last two seasons of Renault Clio Cup category, but he is not planning on competing for the hattrick this year.

After many rumours, a long-awaited decision about his switch to the TCR category has finally come. In his debut year, he is going to stay with Mičánek Motorsport team, while racing with a Cupra car.

But it might be just the beginning, as Makeš is apparently considering doing not just Sprint races, but Endurance events as well.

“In 2020, I will continue with Mičánek Motorsport team. We’ve decided to go with a Cupra because they continue to support TCR category races and there are plenty of spare parts easily available. I’d also like to participate in the Endurance races, but I can’t confirm that just yet, so let’s wait and see,” said Makeš.

At the moment, Makeš is still unsure about his ambitions for the upcoming season. However, he believes he will get the idea once he gets his first kilometres with the new car.

“I haven’t driven the car yet, so it’s really hard to say anything about my ambitions. We’ll see after the first test or after the opening round of the season at Hungaroring and get the feeling for the car,” he added.

This move also brings Makeš back to his former rival Jáchym Galáš. It was the GT2 Motorsport driver, who was his biggest Renault Clio Cup championship rival back in 2018.

Michal Makeš and Jáchym Galáš will measure their strength again.
